Professor Wanda Mejbaum-Katzenellenbogen, the first head of the Biochemistry Department, was a student of one of the most outstanding European biochemists in the times preceding the outbreak of World War II \u2013 Jakub Parnas.<\/li><li>In the academic year of 1986\/87, the University of Wroc\u0142aw opened its biotechnology study programme as&nbsp;<strong>the first in Poland<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-002ab8b ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-plain ugb-main-block\"><style>@media screen and (min-width:768px){.ugb-002ab8b.ugb-container{margin-bottom:0% !important;margin-right:6% !important;margin-left:6% !important}}@media screen and (min-width:768px){.ugb-002ab8b > .ugb-inner-block > .ugb-block-content > *{padding-top:0px !important;padding-bottom:0px !important;padding-right:0px !important;padding-left:0px !important}}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-002ab8b-wrapper\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-002ab8b-content-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile tekst-zdjecie-pion tekst-zdjecie-pion-p\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biotech.uwr.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/261\/2022\/09\/biotechnologia-fot.-Magdalena-Marcula-Biuro-ds.-Promocji-UWr-52-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"lab\" class=\"wp-image-39184 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong>HIGH-QUALITY:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"block-0923dd30-3e64-4fa6-bcbb-e7d8dace3a2c\"><li>The Faculty of Biotechnology is one of the \u201cyoungest\u201d and best faculties of the University of Wroclaw.<\/li><li>Thanks to the high quality of research, the Faculty of Biotechnology University of Wroc\u0142aw belongs to an exclusive group of&nbsp;<strong>10 best Polish Research Universities<\/strong>. Each of the universities participating in the Research University programme indicated its&nbsp;<strong>Priority Research Areas<\/strong>&nbsp;(PRA). These are the areas of research in which scientists from the University of Wroc\u0142aw have already achieved the highest quality of research at the international level. The Faculty of Biotechnology is responsible for one of such PRAs:&nbsp;<strong>Health&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;from gene analysis to drug design<\/strong>: molecular basis of diseases, new therapeutic strategies (therapies used in the treatment of cancer, diabetes, rare genetic diseases, diseases with an infectious and immunological background), new drugs and mechanisms of action of drugs and drug carriers, new directions in medical diagnostics.<strong>The scientific achievements of the Faculty staff were appreciated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (now Ministry of Education and Science) with the award of A+ scientific category twice (for the years 2013-2016 and 2017-2021).<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>The Faculty of Biotechnology was the leader of the Wroc\u0142aw Biotechnology Center with the KNOW status&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013&nbsp;<strong>Leading National Research Center (2014-2018).<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Academics of the Faculty very effectively apply for research grants. The Faculty of Biotechnology always takes top leading positions among grant recipients of the National Science Center in the area of Life Sciences. At the moment, ca. 70 projects are in progress.<\/strong><\/li><li>The Faculty has&nbsp;<strong>top-class laboratory equipment<\/strong>, including a unique superresolution imaging system \u2013 there are only 160 such microscopes in the world.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile tekst-zdjecie-poziom tekst-zdjecie-poziom-l\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biotech.uwr.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/261\/2022\/09\/biotechnologia-fot.-Magdalena-Marcula-Biuro-ds.-Promocji-UWr-81-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"microscope\" class=\"wp-image-39379 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Faculty is the seat of the editorial staff of an&nbsp;<strong>international journal<\/strong>&nbsp;Cellular and Molecular Biology Letters.<\/li><li><strong>The Faculty of Biotechnology is always top ranked among biotechnology majors in Poland (3rd place for 2021).<\/strong><\/li><li>Easy&nbsp;<strong>personal contact<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>with academic teachers<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 statistically, there is one member of the academic faculty for every nine.<\/li><li>Best students are given&nbsp;<strong>opportunities to actively participate in research projects<\/strong>&nbsp;conducted at the Faculty.<\/li><li>The Faculty of Biotechnology is one of the very few biotechnology departments in Poland, which did not give up face-to-face laboratory classes during winter semester of 2019\/20.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-top tekst-zdjecie-pion tekst-zdjecie-pion-p\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biotech.uwr.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/261\/2022\/09\/biotechnologia-fot.-Magdalena-Marcula-Biuro-ds.-Promocji-UWr-13-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"building of UWr\" class=\"wp-image-39124 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong>INTERNATIONALIZATION:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"block-3bfa68db-efb3-4f50-849e-1d6d6c3656f0\"><li>Our scientists cooperate with research centers in Poland and abroad, as well as with many biotechnology companies. UWr biotechnology is&nbsp;<strong>appreciated in Europe and in the world<\/strong>.<\/li><li>First-cycle programme in English (<strong>BSc Biotechnology<\/strong>) was opened in the academic year of 2014\/2015. Since 2019\/20, our international graduates have had the opportunity to continue their education at the&nbsp;<strong>MSc Medical Biotechnology.<\/strong><\/li><li>The English-language education offer of the Faculty of Biotechnology was recognized as a&nbsp;<strong>significant achievement in the field of teaching<\/strong>&nbsp;and awarded by the Minister of Science and Higher Education (Feb, 2020).<\/li><li>Thanks to the full-time programmes in English,&nbsp;<strong>exchange students<\/strong>&nbsp;(including Erasmus+) very readily&nbsp;<strong>choose our Faculty as the receiving institution<\/strong>. The guarantee that all courses from the English-language offer will be delivered is crucial for their decisions.<\/li><li>Our students are given opportunities to participate in&nbsp;<strong>exchange programmes<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>international internships<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MODERN ENVIRONMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Since 2013 the Faculty has been located in a&nbsp;<strong>modern, very well-equipped building<\/strong>&nbsp;in the Grunwaldzki Campus, which is well connected with other academic units and the whole city.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why Faculty of Biotechnology?
