History of the Faculty of Biotechnology

The University of Wrocław was the first in Poland to establish a biotechnology program in the 1986/87 academic year, within the then Institute of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Life Sciences. In 2006, a separate Faculty of Biotechnology was established. 

The history of the Faculty of Biotechnology dates back to 1959 and can be divided into several key periods:  

  1. Department of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Life Sciences, 1959–1969
  2. Institute of Botany and Biochemistry, 1969–1973
  3. Institute of Biochemistry, 1973–1996
  4. Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1996–2006
  5. Faculty of Biotechnology, from 2006
