
History of the Faculty of Biotechnology
The University of Wrocław was the first in Poland to establish a biotechnology program in the 1986/87 academic year, within the then Institute of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Life Sciences. In 2006, a separate Faculty of Biotechnology was established.
The history of the Faculty of Biotechnology dates back to 1959 and can be divided into several key periods:
- Department of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Life Sciences, 1959–1969
- Institute of Botany and Biochemistry, 1969–1973
- Institute of Biochemistry, 1973–1996
- Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1996–2006
- Faculty of Biotechnology, from 2006
